Please join us in a warm welcome to our Interim CEO, Joyce Lee Taylor, PhD.

“Becoming part of the team at OurKids of Miami-Dade and Monroe represents the opportunity to work alongside some of the most innovative and passionate child welfare professionals in the country. I have admired the work of Our Kids from afar for many years, and I am thrilled to have a closer look at the remarkable ways it has improved services for vulnerable children and families in such a short amount of time.  Leadership of innovation is just a part of any success story.  I’m equally interested in the other essential parts of maintaining a good service system:  true partnerships at all levels, shared vision and expectations, a stable and competent workforce with appropriate supports and supervision, a commitment to continuous quality improvement, and prudent allocation of financial resources and management assets,” she says.

Dr. Taylor comes to OurKids with a myriad of skills and experience, which she acquired during 24 years in the field.  She  will be with us during her summer break as a faculty member at the Springfield College School of Social Work and she has rearranged her schedule of work as a child welfare expert for the Yale Program on Supervision, Yale University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.  Previously, she led the evaluation of children’s mental health reform in Massachusetts for the Rosie D Court Monitor.  She has also served in the role of Deputy Commissioner at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families where she implemented major reforms through a a complicated system involving a federal class action lawsuit, and achieved increased accountability and efficiency within the department which consisted of 2,700 employees and an annual budget of $750 million.

In addition to leadership positions, Dr. Taylor draws from her direct practice experiences from conducting investigations, working with foster and adoptive families, supporting the development of 3 systems of care in Northwest Connecticut.  She brings an enhanced perspective to OurKids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Inc.  She says she has 3 goals as the Interim CEO: to support continuity of the organization’s good work, to meet our partners and community stakeholders to understand their needs, and to help the Our Kids Board of Trustees in their search and transition of a new Chief Executive Officer.  She noted that “those will be really big shoes to fill” in recognition of the incredible work of the former CEO, Fran Allegra.

Dr. Taylor will be with us through the end of August, and we’re excited and feel most fortunate to have her on board.
